Some Things Seem To Get Better

I’ve been taken by how people, from teachers and parents of young children to military personnel and business moguls, show such kindness to their fellow humans. So many are gladly caring for ailing fathers, disabled sisters, a neighbor in recovery, or an unemployed recently released inmate.

According to reports, of course, frontline workers have been abused, especially during the lockdown. I don’t know who those mean people were, but my impression when I think of younger folks is that they are willing to see one another.

I think a big reason we have a society with more empathy is that women are populating more roles of influence and power. They put their awareness of their history on display, determined not to do things the way the patriarchy modeled leadership. Yes, we see irrational behaviors, often traceable to foul religion and ideology, but empathy in the world is genuine. I am convinced that people are far more giving than our systems can realize or support. I appreciate that women, by their conscious presence, are renovating systems.

Thank you, women. You are suited for all of us.
