For My Dear Fellow Activists

I’ve noticed on the socials that a few of my white sisters are reconsidering saying the Pledge, celebrating the Fourth, and standing for the Anthem. I am glad for this revelation. It could reveal a growing collective consciousness. I’m glad.

I’m also curious.

Is this something you started thinking about after the Supremes overturned Roe v. Wade? My earnest guess is that some of you thought about these things before, and the death of Roe was the final straw. I also think you may recognize that some of us never have been enchanted with the Pledge, the Fourth, or the Anthem.

We have cared too much for everyone to let such things distract us. Many of us only want to honor the divine in all creatures. We love all people of all genders, of all abilities, of all nationalities, of all sexual orientations, of all traditions and practices, and  of all quantities of melanin.

We offer no apology for wanting the best for everyone. This includes those who want to dominate. We all know you are better than that.

My sister, you already know that we are lost when we measure our personal worth by externals like investments, real and personal properties, awards, (any type of) trophies, university attended, advanced degrees, or even physical appearance.

Most will agree that popular masculinity tends to be drawn to those things more than anyone else. This notwithstanding, the lack of awareness in white women who have not done the work (white supremacy work) leads them to be outraged over things that, for good or bad, crowd their imaginations.
