What If You Already Have Enough Friends?

The people we overlook and the people we take for granted are our best friends. We make assumptions about what they will do for us and begin to behave as though they are supposed to do it.

Then we wonder why we’re so lonely when people we’d like to (real or imaginary) don’t text or show up. But what if your real ones have already given all they could and more? What if their acts and expressions of support are ways of saying, “I love you?” What if their deeds are screaming how much they love you?

And what if their “I love you” gets no response from you?

If you keep your defenses up, you may protect yourself from haters and trolls, but you may at the same time be protecting yourself from the dearest of loves. Even if you do appreciate the gift of their presence, your friendship might become more intimate if you just respond more.
