Sadly, It’s The Same Two Issues (Wake-Up Call)

Right now, we see the United States continuing its charge toward theocracy fueled by the same two issues, guns and abortion.

Christians everywhere are being deceived but the general public? Not as egregiously. The public can better see that deceived religious people have no regard for Jesus. I remain impressed with the power in the name of Jesus. Whoever we may be, whatever our faith tradition, our ideology, or our family of origin, we may be more able to discern Jesus than those who combatively identify with the name. In the opening chapter of my book, Making America Great Again: Challenge to Christians, an Appeal to the Global Community, I wrote of my experience of entering the world of white Christianity as a young adult (I have come to develop friendships with white companions who do not fit within this narrative).

Having attended only black churches until then, I was surprised to find how important the 2nd Amendment was to my white counterparts in my new community. I couldn’t wrap my head around this as a tenet of my faith. But even more onerous was the so-called pro-life movement, which after many years of grappling, I concluded was more accurately “pro-birth.” There was never a time that I wasn’t bothered that people could be so passionate about abortion and placid about race.

With good reason I chose as part of my book’s title, “An Appeal to the Global Community.” We need clearheaded people, not only in our own country but everywhere, to hold these Christian Nationalists to account. We have no time to waste. There are specific lines of action, some legal plus an assortment of disobediences, that citizens here can take. We need to be a spectacle.

The whole world is watching. It is now time to give them a show.
