The Grand in Grandparent

I have great compassion for all you young dads giving everything you have to love your own and create a warm home. I think I could finally be a competent parent, but it’s kind of late for all that. I was in my early 20s when Diane and I had our first, and we had four more, most while I was still figuring out my third decade on earth.

In these uncertain times, your faith in and dreams for your little ones is part of what makes grandparenting gratifying. It reminds us of all we got wrong, yet something is so right now that your child is with us. As elders, we no longer have the vivacity to keep your schedule for care, but we are behind you all the way.

We welcome young families into our lives, knowing that you are both energetic and exhausted. We know you are determined to do your best and remind you that it’s what we grandparents set out to do what feels like light years ago and also feels like last summer.
