Your Higher Power and You
As a young, impressionable pastor, I was shaped by voices of exclusion. Authors and others warned me about others’ beliefs.
During a recent conversation with my friend Sahar, she picked up on my spirit and told me that one of the Muslim names for God seemed to correspond to my life and practice.
Al-Fattah means "the Opener, the reliever, the judge. He is the one who opens the hearts of His slaves and holds the keys to success in this world and the hereafter.” This God, according to Sahar, is one who supports those who have been deprived and abused.
Then today, I read these words from science fiction author Ursula K. Le Guin, "We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable. So did the divine right of kings.”
I appreciate that Higher Intelligence transcends forms, words, and cultures and yet is accessible to all so that we can make all things right.
That’s why we’re here.
