Gifts I Didn’t Like Before

I’m standing in the kitchen. The only one awake, I’m reading a piece by my friend Catherine Weissenberg titled “A Continuing Transformation.” I’m drinking rooibos tea.

Usually, it’s coffee. I suppose it would be Earl Grey were I in London or Mumbai. Having visited South Africa several times, this is far from my first time. Rooibos is what they drink there. I was offered rooibos tea at every restaurant and in most homes I visited. And I declined because I hated the taste. Not my first time, but only recently did I start enjoying it.

Not long ago, I read of its health benefits and thought to try it again. Now I cannot figure out why I never enjoyed it before.

It makes me wonder about things I was not ready to appreciate, that I rejected, and ideas that offended me. There’s so much that I was not prepared to enjoy.

I will enjoy life’s gifts today.
