Do You Know A Prisoner Of Hope?

The words “prisoner of hope” are extracted from the writings of the Hebrew prophet Zechariah. I like to think that some people have found themselves in a position, perhaps through experience, dedication, and consistency, where they cannot imagine giving up on a better world. With abundant evidence against the viability of their dreams, they dream on.

If you’re not one, you likely know someone(s) who are such prisoners. These people recognize that their careers are endangered, maybe even their lives. They see that they are being penalized for hope. They also know that it is even riskier to give up. Quitting is a violation of their values. Of course, this is not to say that they never need rest. They probably need rest more than most people.

Some histories and cultures remind us that those who ran afoul of the law were often cared for in jail by loved ones. Their family brought food, for example. If you are still aiming to be locked up in hope, keep sharpening your focus, but there’s something else you can do.

Support hope-prisoners now. If you are not yet a prisoner, at least be a visitor. You could be implicated by association! Who comes to your mind as you read this? Who do you know to be fearless change agents or change agencies?

Be there for them.

Be their family because their family may not be.
